Boucher Bit / Hanging Cheek (Herm Sprenger)
This bit, which has the bridle attach to a small ring above the snaffle ring, is a nice choice for horses that evade the snaffle by pushing their noses out forward. When some pressure is applied to the reins, slight poll pressure is exerted, encouraging the horse to drop their heads. This bit is legal for dressage, either in single joint or straight mouthed versions. ~nl~~nl~This bit isn't good for horses that curl. It will make a curling problem worse. ~nl~~nl~The Herm Sprenger German Silver is nice for horses mouths. I haven't got the Augerian and others to compare, but I do prefer German Silver to stainless steel, as it is 'wetter' in the mouth. It's costly, so it makes sense to try different bits in stainless before you buy the 'keeper' in German Silver.
