Riding Boots
Tack And Apparel Fitting Guide

Riding Boots

Advice from the tack store The Horse Mart

Tips:

Tall boots for hunt seat riding should fit properly in the foot, calf, and be of the correct height. The foot should fit comfortably, like a regular shoe, but the heel should slip 1/4-1/2" as you walk (new boots will slip more than used boots). The calf should fit snugly at its widest point with breeches on. The ankle must be a bit loose to allow the foot to pass through, but the slimmer the fit, the nicer the look. To check for correct height, stand with your knees bent to approximately your riding position. The shaft should reach all the way up to the bend in the back of your knee. If the boots are new, they should be at least 1" too tall, to allow for shortening of the shaft as the leather softens and breaks in. www.thehorsemart.com
